Drosselmeyer Wins US Gr1 Belmont Stakes

In the US, former Grand Lodge Thoroughbreds shuttler Distorted Humor (Forty Niner-Danzig's Beauty, by Danzig) added a Gr1 triumph when his colt Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor-Golden Ballet, by Moscow Ballet) scored a 0.75-length victory in the US$1 million Gr1 Belmont Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YOs at Belmont Park in New York. Drosselmeyer (ridden by Mike Smith for trainer Bill Mott) defeated fellow colts Fly Down (Mineshaft-Queen Randi, by Fly So Free) & front-running First Dude (Stephen Got Even-Run Sarah Run, by Smart Strike). Drosselmeyer (a US$600,000 yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale) took his record to 3 wins & 5 placings (including May's Gr2 Dwyer Stakes over 8.5 furlongs Belmont Park & March's Gr2 Louisiana Derby over 9 furlongs at Fair Grounds) from 9 starts for US$801,170 earnings.
