Shamardal Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 7th June 2010

European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a UK black-type success when Godolphin's Irish-bred colt Shakespearean (Shamardal-Paimpolaise, by Priolo) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in the £40,000 (A$69,000) Listed Surrey Stakes (7 furlongs) for 3YOs at Epsom Downs. Shakespearean (ridden by Frankie Dettori for trainer Saeed Bin Suroor) defeated Irish-bred gelding Yaa Wayl (Whipper-Lidanna, by Nicholas) & fellow colt Mon Cadeaux (Cadeaux Genereux-Ushindi, by Montjeu). Shakespearean was an €80,000 (A$116,000) yearling at the 2008 Goffs Million Sale & overall now has 4 wins (also including 2009's Gr3 Solario Stakes over 7 furlongs at Sandown Park) & a placing (in 2009's Gr2 Superlative Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket) from 7 starts for £1,023,590 (A$1.771m) earnings.
