Magic Millions Yearlings Day-2: $280k Encosta De Lago Filly

Tuesday, 8th June 2010

New Zealand's David Ellis paid $280,000 for a filly by Coolmore-based stallion & Australian Champion Sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (the 4th foal out of Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning 10-year-old Clang mare Calaway Gal) consigned by Newgate Farm as agent. His dam Calaway Gal (who earned $1.797 million) has 2 foals to race to date & both are winners. Ellis commented: "In life, if you want to make a business out of buying horses, the real goal is to buy a colt or filly by a champion sire or out of a champion mare that looks a real athlete. With this horse you get all three. She's by the champion sire of the country & from a Golden Slipper winner." Ellis confirmed the filly will be sent across the Tasman & join the powerful NZ Te Akau stable fronted by record-breaking trainer Mark Walker.
