Consolation Bonus For Melb Cup Ballot Losers

Wednesday, 9th June 2010

Victoria Racing Club chief executive Dale Monteith announced a "consolation bonus opportunity for connections of horses balloted from this year's Melbourne Cup final field". Should a horse balloted from the Melbourne Cup field subsequently win the Gr3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day (4 days later), the VRC will pay the connections a $100,000 bonus. The VRC Board also approved a distance change for the 2010 Queen Elizabeth Stakes from 2500m to 2600m "to provide an extra staying test for all runners".
