In the UK, Newsells Park has "bought into Gr1-winning sprinter Equiano (Acclamation-Entente Cordiale, by Ela-Mana-Mou) with a view to standing him at the Hertfordshire stud next year," reported racingpost.com. Equiano won 2008's Gr1 King's Stands Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot by a half-length from Australia's evergreen multiple Gr1-winning then 8YO gelding Takeover Target. This season Equiano has won both the Gr3 Palace House Stakes (5 furlongs) at Newmarket & Listed Abernant Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newmarket, as well as finishing 2nd in the Gr2 Temple Stakes (5 furlongs) at Haydock; overall he boasts 6 wins & 7 placings (also including 2009's Listed Abernant Stakes over 6 furlongs at Newmarket, 2008's French Gr2 Prix du Gros-Chene over 1000m at Chantilly & 2007's French Gr2 Criterium De Maisons-Laffitte over 1200m) from 24 starts for £314,882 (A$545,000) earnings. Equiano is bidding for a repeat win in the King's Stand next Tuesday (where the field include Australian sprinters Nicconi & Starspangledbanner).
