Refuse To Bend Adds Irish Gr3

Monday, 14th June 2010

In Ireland, multiple Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Refuse To Bend (Sadler's Wells-Market Slide, by Gulch) added a group success when 4YO mare Grace O'Malley (Refuse To Bend-Lionne, by Darshaan) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the €85,000 (A$123,000) Gr3 Noblesse Stakes (12 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Cork to win this race for the 2nd successive year. Grace O'Malley (ridden by Pat Smullen for trainer Dermot Weld) scored by a short-head from 3YO filly Karasiyra (Alhaarth-Kerania, by Daylami) with a further neck to fellow 3YO filly Unity (Sadler's Wells-Moments Of Joy, by Darshaan). Grace O'Malley took her record to 3 wins (also including 2009's Gr3 Noblesse Stakes over 12 furlongs at Cork) & 2 placings (in May's Gr3 Blue Wind Stakes over 10 furlongs at Naas & April's Listed Vintage Crop Stakes over 13 furlongs at Navan) from 8 starts for €62,111 (A$90,000) earnings.
