Wednesday, 16th June 2010

Also in the UK overnight, deceased former Widden Stud shuttler Anabaa (Danzig-Balbonella, by Gay Mecene) added a Gr1 triumph when the Werthheimer family's Irish-bred & French-trained 9-time Gr1-winning 5YO mare Goldikova (Anabaa-Born Gold, by Blushing Groom) notched her 2nd successive Gr1 triumph since returning from a 6-months spell with victory by a neck in the £250,000 (A$433,000) Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes (8 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Royal Ascot. Favourite Goldikova (ridden by Olivier Peslier for trainer Freddie Head) defeated Irish-bred 5YO entires Paco Boy (Desert Style-Tappen Zee, by Sandhurst Prince) & Dream Eater (Night Shift-Kapria, by Simon Du Desert). At her previous start, Goldikova set a new race record in winning May's French Gr1 Prix D'Ispahan (1850m) at Longchamp & overall now boasts 12 wins (also including 2009's US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita, French Gr1 Prix Jacques Le Marois over 1600m at Deauville, French G1 Prix Rothschild 1600m at Deauville & UK Gr1 Falmouth Stakes 8 furlongs at Newmarket, plus 2008's US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita, French G1 Prix Rothschild 1600m at Deauville, French Gr1 Prix Du Moulin over 1600m at Longchamp & French Gr3 Prix Chloe over 1600m at Maisons-Laffitte) & 4 placings (including 2009's French Gr1 Prix de la Foret over 1400m at Longchamp, plus 2008's French Gr1 Poule D'Essai Des Pouliches-French 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Longchamp & French Gr1 Prix de Diane-French Oaks over 2100m at Chantilly) from 17 starts.
