Thursday, 17th June 2010

In the UK overnight, former Coolmore shuttler Peintre Celebre (Nureyev-Peinture Bleue, by Alydar) added a Gr1 triumph when Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms home-bred 4YO entire Byword (Peintre Celebre-Binche, by Woodman) scored a half-length victory in the £450,000 (A$779,000) Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes (10 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Royal Ascot. Byword (ridden by Maxime Guyon for trainer Andre Fabre) defeated 5YO entire Twice Over (Observatory-Double Crossed, by Caerleon) & front-running US-bred 6YO gelding Tazeez (Silver Hawk-Soiree Russe, by Nureyev). Byword (unraced as a 2YO) took his record to 5 wins (also including May's French Gr2 Prix Du Muguet over 1600m at Saint-Cloud & April's Listed Prix Jacques Laffitte over 1800m at Maisons-Laffitte, plus 2009's Listed Prix Pelleas over 2000m at Compiegne) & 1 placing (in last start's French Gr1 Prix D'Ispahan over 1850m at Longchamp on May 23) from 8 starts.
