Cape Cross Adds HK Gr3

Thursday, 17th June 2010

In Hong Kong last night, former Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a group success when 7YO gelding Able One (Cape Cross-Gardenia, by Danehill) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the HK$2.3 million (A$350,000) Gr3 Premier Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin to take this race for the 2nd time (he also won in 2008). Able One (ridden by Australian jockey Darren Beadman for expatriate Australian trainer John Moore) defeated 4YO gelding Aashiq (Viking Ruler-Join The Fun, by Rory's Jester) & 5YO gelding Thumbs Up (Shinko King-Regelle, by Exploding Prospect). Able One (bred by Sir Patrick Hogan but whose career has frequently been interrupted by injury) was originally a NZ$190,000 yearling at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale & later resold for NZ$270,000 at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock 2YOs-In-Training Sale.  Overall he now has 9 wins (8 in HK, also including both April's Gr1 Champions Mile over 1600m & Gr2 Chairman's Trophy over 1600m, plus 2008's Gr3 Premier Cup over 1400m & 2007's Gr1 Champions Mile over 1600m) & 3 placings (including 2008's Gr1 HK International Mile over 1600m) from 31 starts (30 in HK) for just under HK$23 million (A$3.5m) earnings.
