Dubawi Adds UK Gr2

Monday, 21st June 2010

Triple Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) added a UK group success when his colt Monterosso (Dubawi-Porto Roca, by Barathea) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in the £150,000 (A$260,000) Gr2 King Edward VII Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YOs at Royal Ascot. Monterosso (ridden by Frankie Dettori for trainer Mark Johnston) defeated US-bred colt Arctic Cosmos (North Light-Fifth Avenue Doll, by Marquetry) & fellow colt Buzzword (Pivotal-Bustling, by Danehill). Monterosso took his record to 5 wins & 2 runners-up from 8 starts for £126,003 (A$218,000) earnings. His Gr1-winning Australian-bred dam Porto Roca (Barathea-Antelliere, by Salieri) is a half-sister to NZ Gr1-winner Bluebird The Word. Porto Roca won Australia's Gr1 Coolmore Classic & Gr3 Tattersalls Winter Stakes (now a Gr1), as well as placing in the Gr1 Futurity Stakes, Gr1 Australasian Oaks & Gr1 Eat Well Live Well Cup; she had 4 foals in Australia (3 winners) before Darley bought her & sent her to Europe in late 2005.
