Monday, 21st June 2010

Former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a UK group success when Ballydoyle's Irish-bred colt Mikhail Glinka (Galileo-Lady Karr, by Mark Of Esteem) scored by a nose in the £70,000 (A$121,000) Gr3 Queen's Vase (2 miles) for 3YOs at Royal Ascot. Mikhail Glinka (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated fellow colts Theology (Galileo-Biographie, by Mtoto) & Total Command (Sadler's Wells-Wince, by Selkirk). Mikhail Glinka was a 250,000 guineas (A$450,000) weanling at the 2007 UK Tattersalls December Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins (also including 2009's Irish Listed Eyrefield Stakes over 9 furlongs at Leopardstown) & 3 placings (including April's Irish Gr3 Ballysax Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown & 2009's French Gr1 Criterium De Saint-Cloud over 2000m) from 7 starts for £146,162 (A$253,000) earnings.
