Racing NSW Confirms Appeal In Race Fields Case

Thursday, 24th June 2010

The "fight over NSW race fields legislation is headed back to the courts, with Racing NSW officially issuing an appeal against last week's Federal Court ruling," reported The Daily Telegraph. Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys said his organisation intends to fight Justice Nye Perram's ruling which favoured corporate bookmaker Sportsbet, noting: "We are only appealing the decision we lost, not the 3 we won. We have appealed because we believe that he (Justice Perram) has not looked at all the facts of the case, especially on the threshold. It is a very complex issue, but at the end of the day he has grossly misinterpreted the evidence & the facts & we are going ahead with the appeal because we believe the Sportsbet case will be overturned."
