Sheikh's Star Redoute's Son Musir Returning To Dubai

Thursday, 24th June 2010

Trainer David Payne confirmed his star international recruit Musir (Redoute's Choice-Dizzy De Lago, by Encosta De Lago) who only arrived in Australia last month to begin a campaign aimed at the Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October, "will not race in Australia after he was found to be suffering from arthritic problems in his fetlocks" reported racenet.com.au. Payne said Australian-bred Musir (champion 2YO in South Africa before winning the UAE 2000 Guineas-UAE Derby double) will head back to Dubai to be prepared by his former trainer Mike De Kock for next year's Dubai Word Cup carnival & noted: "The owner (Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa) didn't want to risk him racing here because of concerns how hard our tracks can be & they want to keep him sound." However Payne added the Sheikh's other Australian-bred galloper Raihana (Elusive Quality-Esubooh, by Sunday Silence) has settled in well at his Rosehill stables in Sydney. Raihana finished 2nd behind Musir in the UAE Derby (after winning the UAE 1000 Guineas) & Payne said she is likely to tackle the Gr1 George Main Stakes during the Sydney Spring Carnival before a possible trip to the Cox Plate.
