Monday, 28th June 2010

Former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph (& Gr1 quinella) when Irish-bred colt Cape Blanco (Galileo-Laurel Delight, by Presidium) scored a half-length victory in the €1.25 million (A$1.81 million) Gr1 Irish Derby (12 furlongs) for 3YOs at The Curragh. In a Gr1 stable trifecta for Ballydoyle, Cape Blanco (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for Aidan O'Brien) defeated UK-bred fellow colt Midas Touch (Galileo-Approach, by Darshaan) & Irish-bred fellow colt Jan Vermeer (Montjeu-Shadow Song, by Pennekamp). Cape Blanco (a €330,000 (A$479,000) yearling at the 2008 Goffs Milion Sale) took his record to 5 wins (also including May's Gr2 York Dante Stakes over 10.5 furlongs & 2009's Gr2 Fairyhouse Futurity Stakes over 7 furlongs & 2009's Gr3 Leopardstown Tyros Stakes over 7 furlongs) from 6 starts for earnings of £219,740 (A$379,000).
