Cape Cross Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 28th June 2010

Former Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a black-type success when UK-bred 4YO gelding Laaheb (Cape Cross-Maskunah, by Sadler's Wells) scored a 1.25 lengths win in the £40,000 (A$69,000) Listed Fred Archer Stakes (12 furlongs) at Newmarket in England. Laaheb (ridden by Richard Hills for trainer Michael Jarvis) defeated fellow UK-bred 4YO gelding Whispering Gallery (Daylami-Echoes In Eternity, by Spinning World). Third place was a dead-heat between US-bred 4YO entire Man Of Iron (Giant's Causeway-Better Than Honour, by Deputy Minister) & French-bred 4YO entire Shahwardi (Lando-Shamdara, by Dr Devious). Laheeb (a 200,000 guineas (A$360,000) yearling at the 2007 Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale) took his record to 5 wins (also including 2009's Listed Newmarket James Seymour Stakes) & 3 placings (also including last start's Listed Goodwood Festival Stakes) from 9 starts for £65,596 ($113,000) earnings.
