Melito Wins Gr1 Winter Stakes

Monday, 28th June 2010

Flagship Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian Champion Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) celebrated a Gr1 success when favoured 3YO filly Melito (Redoute's Choice-Cloister, by Marauding) scored a front-running 0.75-length victory in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Winter Stakes (1400m) for fillies & mares at Eagle Farm in Brisbane. Breaking a frustrating run of 4 consecutive Gr1-placings, Melito (ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Gerald Ryan) defeated 4YO mares Wealth Princess (San Luis-Wealth Star, by Senor Pete) & Beaded (Lonhro-Subtle, by Night Shift). Melito (a $600,000 yearling at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) now has 4 wins (also including April's Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick, 2009's Gr2 Furious Stakes over 1400m at Randwick & Gr2 Silver Slipper Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill) & 11 placings (including this month's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m at Eagle Farm, May's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 over 1350m at Doomben & Gr1 BTC Cup 1200m at Doomben, April's Gr1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick, March's Gr3 Birthday Card Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill, plus 2009's Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield, Gr2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington, Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill, Gr2 Perfect Vision Ilasik Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill, Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m at Randwick & Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m at Randwick) from 18 starts for $1,578,000 earnings.
