Giant's Causeway Adds Irish Black-Type

Tuesday, 29th June 2010

Former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added an Irish black-type success when US-bred 3YO colt Emperor Claudius (Giant's Causeway-Virginia Waters, by Kingmambo) scored a half-length victory in the €62,500 (A$91,000) Listed Celebration Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YOs & up at The Curragh. Emperor Claudius (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated US-bred 3YO filly Gold Bubbles (Street Cry-Well Revered, by Red Ransom) & Irish-bred 5YO mare Barring Decree (Dalakhani-Barring Order, by Barathea). Emperor Claudius (a US$35,000 yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale) now has 4 wins & 2 placings (including 2009's Listed Royal Ascot Chesham Stakes over 7 furlongs) from 8 starts for £48,139 (A$70,000) earnings.
