Novel Irish Sweepstake Likely To Be Repeated

Wednesday, 30th June 2010

An innovative "sweepstake" race run in Ireland is likely to be repeated and become an annual fixture on the Irish turf calendar. Run last Sunday, the race determined the outcome for 200 prize winners who purchased €20 lottery tickets which went on sale in April. Following a June 20 draw at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin, the top 25 prize winners - guaranteed between €10,000 (A$14,500) & €1million (A$1.45 million) - were each allocated a horse in the 6.5 furlong sprint. Finalists were hosted to a VIP weekend at the Curragh, staying at the 5 star K Club Hotel and Country. The victory by Invincible Ash made Trevor Cawley an instant new millionaire. .
