Keeneland Yearlings Day-1: Average US$347k
Overall on Day-1 at Keeneland, 69 yearlings sold for US$23,965,000 at an average US$347,319 & a median US$250,000. The September Sale format was changed this year to begin with 2 smaller, select evening sessions on Sunday & Monday nights; as a result there are no comparable figures for 2009. Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell commented: "We're encouraged with how things went tonight. The fact that we sold a horse for US$4.2 million - the highest price paid for a yearling since 2006 - was great. Our goal when we changed the format was that we would see a difference & I think we did tonight. The pavilion was filled with people who were bidding & clearly enjoying the night. There was electricity in the air. It was nice. Our hope is that this momentum continues into the next sessions."
