Exceed And Excel Adds UK Gr3

Monday, 25th October 2010

Darley stallion & former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a UK juvenile group success when his colt Klammer (Exceed And Excel-Aymara, by Darshaan) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the £37,500 (A$60,000) Gr3 John Smith's Extra Smooth Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YO colts & geldings at Newbury. Klammer (ridden by Jamie Spencer for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam) scored by a nose from fellow colt Dux Scholar (Oasis Dream-Alumni, by Selkirk) with a further neck to Australian-bred colt Elzaam (Redoute's Choice-Mambo In Freeport, by Kingmambo). Klammer was a 16,000 guineas (A$27,000) yearling at the 2009 Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he now has 4 wins (also including August's French Listed Criterium Du Fonds Europeen De L'Elevage over 1600m at Deauville) & 2 placings (in September's Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot & July's UK Gr2 Superlative Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket) from 7 starts for £124,057 (A$211,000) earnings.
