Precedence Wins Moonee Valley Gold Cup

NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added another major group staying success when favoured 5YO gelding Precedence (Zabeel-Kowtow, by Shadeed) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the $250,000 Gr2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m) for 4YOs & up at Mooney Valley. Precedence (ridden by Blake Shinn for trainer Bart Cummings) defeated 5YO entire Above Average (High Chaparral-Crystal Valkyrie, by Danehill) & top-weighted 8YO gelding Capecover (Cape Cross-Set Up, by Zabeel). Precedence (a NZ$180,000 yearling at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale) now has 6 wins (also including September's Gr3 JRA Cup over 2040m at Moonee Valley & March's Listed Manion Cup over 2400m at Rosehill) & 4 placings (including last start's Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m at Caulfield on October 9, plus 2009's Listed VRC St Leger over 2800m at Flemington) from 23 starts for $629,720 earnings.
