Maryland Plan Rejected: Laurel & Pimlico "In Limbo"

Wednesday, 1st December 2010

In the US, racing in Maryland for 2011 "is in limbo after the Maryland Racing Commission rejected a stop-gap plan (for 47 racing dates) submitted by the Maryland Jockey Club & also rejected owner MI Developments' plan to sell 49% of the MJC to Penn National Gaming," reported bloodhorse.com. The situation "threatens" major racing at Laurel Park & Pimlico in 2011: Laurel Park "is approved for live racing (only) through to the end of December"; & Pimlico "has no dates for 2011 at this time, leaving the Gr1 Preakness Stakes (2nd leg of the US Triple Crown on the 3rd Saturday in May) in jeopardy".
