Cranbourne Night Racing To Begin In October
October 2011 "has been pencilled in for the opening of Victoria's night racing circuit at Cranbourne," reported The Herald-Sun. With Casey Council "already paving the way for the installation of lights, tenders for the project will go out this month, with construction starting early next year". While there are some logistical issues (especially involving greyhound meetings at the tri-code complex) erecting the light towers "is expected to take 9 months". Racing Victoria "has flagged an opening night in mid-October, just after the running of the Cranbourne Cup". While it is planned to run night meetings at Cranbourne on alternate Fridays to Moonee Valley's night meetings, the venue will race on Saturday nights in December. When Cranbourne & Moonee Valley are fully operational, RV plans to run "as many as 34 night meetings a season, stretching from late September to early April". RV "views the night meeting circuit as an opportunity to gain a foothold in the largely untapped evening wagering time & regain market share lost to the buoyant greyhound racing industry".
