Arqana Breeding Day-1: $1.104m Celimene
In the French auction ring, agent Patrick Barbe & Tetsuya Yoshida (acting for his father Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm) paid top price of €800,000 (A$1.104m) for dual Gr3-winning 4YO mare Celimene (Dr Fong-Lunassa, by Groom Dancer) during the opening session at the 4-day Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale at Deauville. The figure was the highest price at this sale since 2006. Celimene (consigned by Carlos Lerner, for whom she won both last year's Gr3 Prix de Flore & Gr3 Prix Penelope) was originally a €60,000 (A$83,000) purchase at the Deauville October Yearling sale. Barbe told racingpost.com: "She will now go straight to stud & be covered by a Shadai stallion. We have followed Celimene since her debut as a 2YO & have always liked her. The filly has some very good performances & was very talented."
