Napthine Priority "Secure Funding Model"

Monday, 6th December 2010

New Victorian Racing Minister Denis Napthine also told The Herald-Sun that he wanted to "meet the RV board for the 1st time in the next 2 weeks" & noted his priority was "gaining secure funding for racing, especially given the uncertainty provided by the wagering licence & issues involving an appropriate funding model for corporate bookmakers". He emphasised: "We need to ensure we have a secure funding base for all 3 codes of racing that can grow & develop the industry & provide growth in prize-money. I'd like to see a national approach, but agreement among all states, territories & the Federal Government is a bit like herding cats. But it doesn't mean we should not try. If we can't get a national approach, we should try to get a funding stream from all who bet on Victorian racing to guarantee the growth of our industry."
