2,000 Wins For US Trainer Bob Baffert

US trainer Bob Baffert notched his 2,000th winner when front-running 2YO colt Free Pourin (raced by long-time Baffert client Mike Pegram) scored over 6 furlongs at Hollywood Park in California. Baffert, 57, previously trained US Eclipse Award champions Lookin At Lucky, Real Quiet & Silverbulletday for Pegram. Baffert (who began his career training quarter horses) switched to thoroughbreds in the late 1980s & subsequently won 3 consecutive Eclipse Awards as the US top trainer from 1997-99, "as well as leading all trainers in earnings from 1998-2001" noted bloodhorse.com. He was inducted into US Racing's Hall-Of-Fame in 2009. Overall Baffert has conditioned 11 Eclipse Award champions (who have accounted for 13 titles), also including Midshipman, Indian Blessing, Midnight Lute, Chilukki, Point Given (who also won 2001 Horse-Of-The-Year), Silver Charm, Vindication & War Emblem. Baffert's major victories include the Gr1 Kentucky Derby 3 times, Gr1 Preakness Stakes 5 times & Gr1 Belmont Stakes once, plus 7 Breeders' Cup & 2 Dubai World Cup winners. Baffert ranks 6th all-time among trainers with earnings of US$155,109,369.
