Declines Continue In US Wagering, Purses & Race Days
US wagering, purses & race days "continued a downward spiral in November compared to one year ago," reported bloodhorse.com. The Thoroughbred Racing Economic Indicators report released by Equibase noted: wagering on US races in November totalled US$906,259,429 (down 7.78% from November 2009); purses totalled US$95,520,748 (down 8.45% from last year); & there were 375 race days (individual racing programs at each track) a decline of 8.76% from November 2009. And cumulatively for 11 months of 2010, total pari-mutuel handle on US racing was US$10,737,672,191 (down 7.2%); purses totalled US$971,189,950 (down 6.2%); & there were 442 race days (down 7.89%).
