Stray Cat Spooks Ortensia To Almost End HK Campaign

Tuesday, 7th December 2010

In Hong Kong, visiting Australian 5YO mare Ortensia (Testa Rossa-Aerate's Pick, by Picnicker) "was spooked by a stray cat which almost ended her Gr1 International Sprint campaign" reported The Herald-Sun. Just as Ortensia "was making her way on to the Sha Tin track at the weekend, a stray cat ran across her path, spooked the mare & threw trainer Tony Noonan's son Jake from her back. Ortensia got loose, took on a running rail & somehow got over it. She took some skin off a hind leg & suffered a wound to a knee." However Noonan confirmed last night: "Miraculously, she's fine. How she survived it is a dead-set miracle. You just would not believe it. The stress levels were high, but Jake & the girl with Ortensia did a good job. Fortunately, she landed on her feet. It was basically just superficial hair loss without getting much of a mark. I was a little worried as to how she would cope with it mentally, but she has really bounced back." Ortensia worked over 1200m on Sunday, "brushing home her final 800m in a tick under even time" & according to Noonan "looks well in herself & her action looks good".
