National Stewards 3: Vet Treatments On Raceday
Stewards considered the dilemma that "at present, private veterinarians are not allowed to treat racehorses on race day, but that may change" reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Strict protocols "will be put in place to allow trainers to have their vets treat a horse when necessary" & Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy said "early intervention" was all about "welfare & early recovery from injuries". The newspaper noted: "For example, when a horse is galloped on, it will now be able to be treated on-course instead of having to wait until returning to the trainer's stable."
