Duffy Ready To Work With New Minister Napthine
Meanwhile Racing Victoria chairman Michael Duffy "has dismissed concerns about his relationship with new Victorian Racing Minister Denis Napthine" reported The Herald-Sun. Duffy said he was "confident of developing constructive ties with Napthine", who earlier this week suggested RV "look to the future" when considering its next head. Duffy said he was looking forward to Napthine "delivering on his pre-election promises", which included the Government returning unclaimed dividends to the industry, boosting prize-money for jumps racing by $2 million & using the taxes from on-course totalisator bets to entice crowds to race meetings. Duffy noted: "Those initiatives will significantly bolster the current level of assistance." And Duffy emphasised: "I hope once things settle down there will be a constructive relationship. As the minister would understand & as I certainly do, you do have to deal with people who you may not be in agreement with. That's life. It wasn't meant to be easy, as someone once said. I'm sure there will be issues that we don't find common ground (on), but that's been the case with governments & the racing industry for a long time."
