Patinack Buys Victoria Derby Winner Monaco Consul

Friday, 10th December 2010

Dual Gr1-winning 4YO stallion Monaco Consul (High Chaparral-Argante, by Star Way) has been purchased by Patinack Farm & will begin stud duty in the 2011 breeding season. Monaco Consul (a NZ$100,000 yearling at the 2008 NZB Select Sale at Karaka) boasts 3 wins (including 2009's Gr1 Victoria Derby over 2500m at Flemington & Gr1 Inglis Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick) & 4 placings (including October's Gr1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m, plus both April's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m at Randwick & Gr1 AJC Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick) from 16 starts for $1,478,355 earnings. Patinack chairman Nathan Tinker commented: "We are delighted to have acquired a horse of this quality to stand alongside our exciting line-up of stallions. I have watched this horse very closely during his career, as he often competed against our very own stable's runners, including 2 of our Gr1 winners. With the progeny of High Chaparral rekindling Australia's interest in strong middle-distance performers, Monaco Consul will find a niche in the growing market of those looking to breed racehorses capable of excelling at a mile & beyond." Monaco Consul's sire High Chaparral has also produced this season's multiple Gr1-winner So You Think & Gr1 Caulfield Cup winner Descarado. And Monaco Consul's dam Argante is a full-sister to Gr1 winner Con Air & half-sister to multiple Gr1-winning sire Military Plume, while the family also plays host to Gr1 winners Niconero, Nicconi, Zip Zip Aray & Sealegs.
