STC Members Continue Anti-Merger Campaign
However columnist Ray Thomas reported in The Daily Telegraph this morning: "It might seem that the horse has bolted & the stable has closed, but there is still a push from disgruntled STC members to prevent a merger with the AJC from proceeding." Thomas revealed: "In a letter (to Sydney Turf Club members), STC chairman Bill Picken has announced an extraordinary general meeting of club members will be held on January 17 to vote on whether up to 5 directors be removed from the office. Wilf Mila, Michael Crismale, Max Whitby, John Holloway & Laurie Macri are those directors in the firing line. It is enormously disappointing that this EGM is required to be held & the cost of holding the meeting is substantial." Picken pointed out the AJC-STC merger Act has been already passed by both houses of the NSW Parliament & emphasised: "It now only awaits the Minister's order of a merger finalisation date, at which time the STC is dissolved & the new merged club commences operations. If the resolutions to remove some or all of the directors are passed at the EGM, the club may be left with an ineffective board whose only duties will be to call for fresh elections."
