US Juvenile Star Pluck To Join Vinery Aust Roster
Leading owner-breeder & Magic Millions principal John Singleton (who earlier this year secured Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown to stand at stud at Vinery Australia) "has obtained the standing rights for another American champion Pluck", reported The Daily Telegraph. Singleton revealed Pluck ("freakish winner" of last month's US Gr2 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf) "will eventually join his sire More Than Ready on Vinery Stud's roster". Pluck (More Than Ready-Secret Heart, by Fort Wood) came from last-in-running to motor past 11 rivals in the straight & score a 1-length victory in the Gr2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (8 furlongs on turf) at Churchill Downs in Kentucky & Singletion declared: "I saw Pluck's Breeders Cup win & it was like Belle Du Jour's Golden Slipper (in 2000). Pluck missed the start, got interfered with when a horse fell in front of him, was 5-lengths last for most of the race, but ended up winning easily. It was an incredible performance. So we decided to buy into the colt & although we only have a minority interest, it is enough to give us southern hemisphere standing rights." Pluck currently boasts 3 wins (also including September's Canadian Gr3 Summer Stakes over 8 furlongs at Woodbine) & a runner-up from 5 starts for US$725,440 earnings. Singleton said Pluck would "race in Europe next year & be set for either the French or Irish 2000 Guineas", adding there is "also a chance Pluck could race for a season Down Under as a 4YO".
