Americain 3rd In HK Gr1 International Vase
Meanwhile recent Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner American finished 3rd & jockey Gerald Mosse commented: "The pace was way too slow for him. I could not get him to start faster than he did & then they stopped. I pushed him early on to avoid being out-paced, but he does not have the turn of foot to catch these horses. He probably will gain in speed with time & should prevail under more testing conditions. He gave me everything he had & tried so hard. He's a wonderful horse." Similarly his trainer Alain Royer-Dupre summed up: "The pace of the race was too slow for him, especially at the last bend. He's a very good horse, but it's impossible to catch these faster runners under such conditions. I'm confident he will eventually succeed over 12 furlongs (2400m) & with a faster pace, perhaps the Japan Cup could be a race for him next year."
