Bruce Almighty Wins NZ Waikato Gold Cup

In New Zealand, Chequers Stud sire Deputy Governor (Master Willie-Regent Miss, by Vice Regent) added a group success when 7YO gelding Bruce Almighty (Deputy Governor-Striking Angel, by Straight Strike) scored a 0.75-length victory in the NZ$100,000 Gr2 Waikato Times Gold Cup (2400m) at Te Rapa. Bruce Almighty (ridden by Michael Coleman for trainer Stuart Manning) defeated 5YO mare Dawn Ghost (Pyrus-Lucadore, by Wild Rampage) & favoured fellow 7YO gelding Tinseltown (Pentire-Tinsel, by Jetball). Bruce Almighty now has 14 wins (also including June's Listed AG Challenge Stakes over 1600m at Wanganui, May's Gr3 Canterbury Gold Cup over 2000m at Riccarton Park, February's Gr3 Taranaki Cup over 2000m at New Plymouth & both January's Greymouth Cup & Gore Cup) & 11 placings (including October's Listed Feilding Cup over 2100m at Awapuni & April's Listed Riverton Cup over 2147m, plus 2009's Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup over 1600m at Awapuni) from 66 starts for NZ$336,988 earnings.
