JJ The Jet Plane Wins HK Gr1 International Sprint
In Hong Kong yesterday, South African-bred 6YO gelding JJ The Jet Plane (Jet Master-Majestic Guest, by Northern Guest) notched his 3rd successive Gr1 triumph when he snatched victory by a short-head in the final strides of the HK$14 million (A$1.867m) Gr1 International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin. JJ The Jet Plane (ridden by Piere Strydom for trainer Lucky Houdalakis) defeated front-running Australian-bred 5YO gelding Rocket Man (Viscount-Macrosa, by McGinty) & Australian-bred 7YO gelding Sacred Kingdom (Encosta de Lago-Courtroom Sweetie, by Zeditave). JJ The Jet Plane (who has twice won the Equus Award as South African Champion Sprinter & last season also won the Equus Award as Champion Older Horse) took his record to 12 wins (also including July's Gr1 Mercury Sprint over 1200m at Clairwood & May's Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m at Scottsville, plus 2009's UK Listed Leisure Stakes over 6 furlongs at Windsor & UAE Listed Al Quoz Sprint over 1200m at Nad Al Sheba, as well as 2008's Gr1 Mercury Sprint over 1200m at Clairwood, Gr1 Computaform Sprint over 1000m at Turffontein, Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m at Scottsville, Gr2 Senor Santa Handicap over 1200m at Vaal & Gr3 Man O'War Sprint over 1100m at Turffontein, in addition to 2007's Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes over 1400m at Turffontein) & 5 placings (including 2009's UK Gr1 Darley July Cup over 6 furlongs at Newmarket & UK Gr3 Dubai Duty Free World Trophy over 5 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2008's Listed Sea Cottage Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein) from 23 starts.
