Mastery Wins HK Gr1 International Vase

Godolphin's UK-bred 4YO entire Mastery (Sulamani-Moyesii, by Diesis) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in yesterday's HK$14 million (A$1.867m) Gr1 International Vase (2400m) at Sha Tin. Mastery (ridden by Frankie Dettori for trainer Saeed Bin Suroor) defeated fellow UK-bred 4YO entire Redwood (High Chaparral-Arum Lily, by Woodman) & last start Gr1 Melbourne Cup-winning US-bred 5YO entire Americain (Dynaformer-America, by Arazi). Mastery took his record to 5 wins (also including November's UK Listed Floodlit Stakes over 12 furlongs at Kempton Park, plus both 2009's UK Gr1 St Leger Stakes over 14.5 furlongs at Doncaster & Gr1 Derby Italiano over 2200m at the Capannelle) & 6 placings (including October's UK Gr3 Darley Stakes over 9 furlongs at Newmarket, plus 2009's French Gr1 Grand Prix De Paris over 2400m at Longchamp, UK Gr2 Great Voltigeur Stakes over 12 furlongs at York, UK Gr3 Queen's Vase over 16 furlongs at Royal Ascot & US Breeders' Cup Marathon over 14 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 13 starts.
