Dubai Next For Star Aust-Bred Sprinter Rocket Man

Wednesday, 15th December 2010

Singapore-based trainer Patrick Shaw declared star sprinting Australian-bred 5YO gelding Rocket Man (Viscount-Macrosa, by McGinty) "has pulled-up in excellent order" following his runner-up effort (beaten a short-head in the final strides) in Sunday's Gr1 Hong Kong International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin. Shaw added: "He looked very fresh on Monday morning. As I normally do I had him x-rayed & that has come back all fine." Shaw said he hoped Rocket Man would be back in Singapore on Friday "where he will spend the next 2 weeks in quarantine. He needs a bit of a break now, which he will get down in quarantine & after that we will get him ready for Dubai." Shaw confirmed Rocket Man would be "out to atone for his defeat in this year's Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m) at Meydan" when he heads to Dubai for the race on March 26 next year. Rocket Man (a $70,000 yearling at the 2007 Magic Millions National Sale) is Singapore's highest-rated galloper & boasts 12 wins (including November's HK Gr2 Jockey Club Sprint over 1200m at Sha Tin, October's Gr3 Garden City Trophy over 1200m at Kranji, September's Gr3 Woodlands Handicap over 1200m at Kranji & April's Gr1 Lion City Cup over 1200m at Kranji, plus 2009's Gr1 Lion City Cup over 1200m at Kranji, Gr3 Kranji Sprint over 1200m at Kranji & Gr3 Singapore 3YO Sprint over 1200m at Kranji, as well as 2008's Gr3 Magic Millions Orchid Trophy over 1200m at Kranji) & 4 runners-up (in May's Singapore Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200m at Kranji & March's UAE Gr1 Dubai Golden Shaheen over 1200m at Meydan, plus 2009's Singapore Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200m at Kranji) from 16 starts.
