International Trainers Target 2011 Melb Cup Carnival
The Melbourne Cup carnival "continues to generate international interest" with Racing Victoria operations manager Leigh Jordon & RV chief handicapper Greg Carpenter "both fielding queries from several trainers at Sunday's Hong Kong international day" reported The Herald-Sun. Connections of English stayer Redwood (runner-up in Sunday's Gr1 Hong Kong Vase over 2400m) "approached Jordon about next year's Cups"; Redwood (trained by Barry Hills) has raced in 4 countries this year & has "strong form through Sans Frontieres, one of the pre-post favourites for this year's Melbourne Cup". Carpenter said German middle-distance horse Budai (winner of 4 of his 8 starts) had been "bought by Australian interests for next year's spring carnival". And Carpenter said French horse Tres Rock Danon (5th to Americain in the Prix Kergorlay at Deauville) "was also being set for the Cups".
