EXCLUSIVE 1: Do Mare Race Records Equal Breeding Success?

Does a mare's performance on the racetrack equal success in the breeding barn? In the latest issue of Breeding&Racing Magazine (out this week) leading equine researcher Renee Geelen has produced a major statistical analysis, examining 12,912 mares who left 29,154 foals over a 5-year period. Her key finding: "The final ratio shows that stakes-winning race mares are twice as likely as other mares to produce a stakes-winner at stud."
