Fritzy Boy Wins NZ Manawatu Challenge Stakes

Grangewilliam Stud sire Brilliance (Thunder Gulch-La Gueriere, by Lord At War) added a NZ group success when 6YO gelding Fritzy Boy (Brilliance-Fritzy Girl, by Cache Of Gold) scored a 0.75-length victory in the NZ$70,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Manawatu Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni. Fritzy Boy (ridden by David Walker for trainer Alby MacGregor) defeated 3YO colt Cellarmaster (Dubawi-Oenology, by Sound Reason) & 7YO gelding O'Cartier (My Halo-Carinda, by The Jogger). Fritzy Boy took his record to 11 wins (also including 2008's Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, Listed Southland Guineas over 1600m at Ascot Park, Listed Dunedin Guineas over 1400m at Wingatui & Listed Gore Guineas over 1355m, plus 2007's Listed Wanganui Guineas over 1320m) & 10 placings (including September's Gr1 Windsor Park Plate over 1600m at Hastings & August's Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, plus 2009's Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes over 1600m at Trentham & Listed Levin Stakes over 1200m at Otaki, as well as 2008's Gr1 NZ Derby over 2400m at Ellerslie & Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes over 1600m at Hastings, in addition to 2007's Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas over 1400m at Hastings) from 37 starts for NZ$647,900 earnings.
