In South Africa, boom 3YO colt What A Winter (Western Winter-Waseela, by Ahonoora) scored a 1.25-lengths victory over his older rivals in the R600,000 (A$90,000) weight-for-age Gr1 Cape Flying Championship (1000m) at Kenilworth. What A Winter (ridden by Karl Neisius for trainer Mike Bass) led in a Bass-stable trifecta by defeating 5YO gelding Rushing Wind (Windrush-Nordic Vine, by Northern Guest) & 6YO entire Blue Tiger (Counter Action-Manuka, by Rainbow Dream). What A Winter took his record to 5 wins (also including 2010’s Gr2 Selangor Cup over 1600m at Kenilworth & Listed Sophomore Sprint over 1200m at Kenilworth) & a placing (in 2010’s Gr3 Cape Classic over 1400m at Kenilworth) from 7 starts.
