NZB Yearlings Day-1: NZ$800k Danehill Dancer Colt

Tuesday, 1st February 2011

Te Akau Stable principal David Ellis paid the Day-1 top price of NZ$800,000 for a colt by former Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (the 9th foal out of dual-winning 18-year-old Zabeel mare Ballycairn) during the opening session at the 2-day NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale (to be followed by the 3-day Select Sale & then the 2-day Festival Sale) at Karaka in Auckland. The colt was consigned by Cambridge Stud & his dam Ballycairn is a 3/4-sister to dual-winning & stakes-placed Coleraine, as well as a half-sister to Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed Deianira. Ballycairn has already produced Gr2-winner Pure Harmony, 5-time-winner & Gr1-placed Galway Lass, plus 3 other winners. Ellis commented: “He is a very athletic colt, the ideal type of horse for the Karaka Million & we will be aiming him at the race. It would be great to see him running in the New Zealand 2YO Gr1 races & if he is successful, perhaps race him in Australia as a 3YO. He's a great colt, the real deal. He is by a hugely successful international sire out of a good Zabeel mare, a fantastic broodmare sire whose daughters are proving valuable & highly successful at stud.”
