NZB Yearlings Day-2: NZ$875k Red Ransom Colt
Te Akau Stable principal David Ellis paid the Day-2 top price of NZ$875,000 for a colt by deceased former Vinery Stud shuttler & in recent years permanently Australian-based stallion Red Ransom (the 3rd foal out of 10-year-old Nureyev mare Nureyev’s Girl) during the closing session at the 2-day NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale (to be followed by the 3-day Select Sale & then the 2-day Festival Sale) at Karaka in Auckland. The colt (consigned by Sir Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge Stud) is a half-brother to this season’s leading NZ 3YO filly King's Rose & Ellis enthused: “He is a terrific colt. He has an interesting pedigree and, given he performs on the track, would make a great stud prospect & would be a good match for NZ mares. We had to fight off (Australian-based trainers) David Hayes & Chris Waller, both astute judges in their own right, to secure the horse, but we are thrilled that he will be staying in NZ.” Nureyev’s Girl is a full-sister to stakes-winner European Rose, UK winner Lakabi (dam of French Gr3-winner Soneva & US triple stakes-winner Coronado Rose) & unraced Great Notice (dam of stakes-winner Gybe), as well as a half-sister to stakes-winner Roanoka.
