Aust-Bred Galileo Filly Wins UAE 1000 Guineas

Friday, 4th February 2011

Also in Dubai overnight, former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a UAE black-type quinella when Australian-bred daughter Mahbooba (Galileo-Sogha, by Red Ransom) scored a 3.75-lengths victory in the US$250,000 Listed UAE 1000 Guineas (1600m on all-weather) for 3YO fillies at Meydan. Favourite Mahbooba (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for South African trainer Mike de Kock) defeated stable-mate & fellow Australian-bred Reem (Galileo-Al Afreet, by Danehill) & South African-bred Chocolicious (Kahal-Candy Box, by Exclusive Patriot). Mahbooba (bred & raced by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum) took her record to 4 wins (also including 2010's South African Gr1 Golden Slipper over 1450m at Clairwood & Gr2 The Debutante over 1200m at Scottsville) & 2 placings (in last month's UAE 1000 Guineas Trial over 1400m at Meydan & 2010's South African Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship over 1200m at Scottsville) from 6 starts.
