NSW Election 1: Racing Taxation Relief

Friday, 4th February 2011

With the NSW state election due in March, The Daily Telegraph asked Racing Minister Kevin Greene & Opposition racing spokesman George Souris: Will your government consider introducing some wagering taxation relief for the NSW racing industry?

  • Greene: The NSW Labor Government has done more for racing in NSW than any government in living memory. We've already provided some wagering taxation relief designed to keep TAB revenues flowing to NSW racing participants. Nevertheless, the Government will review the national wagering tax arrangements to ensure that the NSW racing industry is not disadvantaged by low tax regimens in other jurisdictions.
  • Souris: In the tight fiscal situation that Labor has left the state, it is not immediately possible to do this. However I do realise that it is an important ingredient for investors in the NSW market. In that vein, the Liberals & Nationals supported legislation for a lower tax regimen for external investors which will benefit the industry by several million dollars each year.
