NSW Election 2: $90m Funding Inequity

Friday, 4th February 2011

The Daily Telegraph also asked Racing Minister Kevin Greene & Opposition racing spokesman George Souris: How are you going to correct the funding inequity between the Victorian & NSW racing industries, where Victoria receives nearly $90 million more per annum?

  • Greene: The NSW Government very recently announced a $174 million investment in racing, an unmatched commitment to our racing industry. We have reformed the revenue base for racing industry funding by introducing race fields legislation which adds an additional sum in the order of $60 million for the NSW racing industry. As in Victoria, we've also introduced (racing game) Trackside.
  • Souris: Every opportunity must be explored to gain greater revenues through corporate sponsorship & advertising & in providing the sort of corporate facilities that the new Royal Randwick will provide. A strong pursuit of finality in the race fields legislation including measures to ensure that all persons using NSW race fields without approval will incur a debt to the relevant racing authority as well as facing the existing penalties.
