1st Winner For Freshman Sire Churchill Downs

Monday, 7th February 2011

Blue Gum Farm's Gr2-winning & dual Gr1-placed freshman stallion Churchill Downs (Danehill-Silken Whisper, by Diesis) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO filly Emerald Downs (Churchill Downs-Spirit Of Grace, by Dr Grace) scored over 1200m at Moonee Valley in Melbourne for trainer Anthony Cummings. Emerald Downs (a half-sister to dual Gr1-winner Turffontein) was a $135,000 yearling consigned from Blue Gum at the 2010 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne. Former boom juvenile colt Churchill Downs (a $950,000 yearling consigned by Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) was the 1st colt home in both the 2006 Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes (3rd-placed) & Magic Millions 2YO Classic (runner-up). He retired to Blue Gum with an overall record of 3 wins (including the Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m as a 2YO & Gr2 Stutt Stakes over 1600m as a 3YO) & 5 placings (also including the Gr1 Ascot Vale Stakes over 1200m, plus 4th in the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m) from 15 starts for $763,875 prize-money.
