Multiple Gr1-winning former NZ Glenmorgan Farm shuttler & dual 1997-98 Canadian Horse-Of-The-Year Chief Bearhart (Chief's Crown-Amelia Bearhart, by Bold Hour) added a NZ black-type success when evergreen 8YO gelding Borninthestates (Chief Bearhart-Emanation, by Iades) gained the judge's decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the NZ$45,000 Listed Dunedin Casino Gold Cup (2400m) at Wingatui to claim this race for the 2nd time (having previously won in 2008, as well as finishing runner-up in 2009). Borninthestates (ridden by Lisa Allpress for trainer Michael Pitman) scored by a half-head from 5YO mare Trilogy (Generous-Glowing Wave, by Sea Hero) with a further half-head to fellow 8YO gelding Biman (Colombia-Tanshenell, by Le Grand Seigneur). Borninthestates (a NZ$19,000 yearling at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Festival Sale at Karaka) took his record to 16 wins (also including 2008's Listed Dunedin Casino Gold Cup over 2400m at Wingatui & 2006's Listed Dunedin Guineas over 1600m at Wingatui) & 21 placings (including 2009's Gr2 Wellington Cup over 2400m at Trentham & Listed Dunedin Casino Gold Cup over 2400m at Wingatui, plus both 2008's Listed Invercargill Gold Cup over 2200m at Ascot Park & 2006's Listed Southland Guineas over 1600m at Ascot Park) from 77 starts for NZ$395,650 earnings.
