Dim Sum Wins HK Gr1 Chairman's Sprint

Monday, 7th February 2011

In Hong Kong's 1st meeting of the Year Of The Rabbit, a vast crowd of 96,000 (the biggest Chinese New Year Meeting attendance for 9 years) saw UK-bred 7YO gelding Dim Sum (Kyllachy-Heckle, by In The Wings) score a 0.3-lengths victory in the HK$4.5 million (A$563,000) Gr1 Chairman's Sprint Prize (1200m) at Sha Tin to claim this race for the 2nd time (having also won it in 2009). Dim Sum (ridden by Olivier Doleuze for expatriate Australian trainer John Moore) defeated favoured Australian-bred 7YO gelding & former World Champion Sprinter & Hong Kong Horse-Of-The-Year Sacred Kingdom (Encosta De Lago-Courtroom Sweetie, by Zeditave) who was bidding to equal the 18-victory winning record of HK superstar sprinter Silent Witness; Irish-bred 4YO gelding Let Me Fight (Hawk Wing-Riva Royale, by Royal Applause) finishing in 3rd-placing. Dim Sum was a £50,000 (A$77,000) yearling at the Doncaster Bloodstock St Leger Sale; overall he now boasts 5 wins (also including 2009's Gr1 Chairman's Sprint Prize over 1200m) & 10 placings (including last month's Gr1 Centenary Sprint Cup over 1000m) from 41 starts for HK$11,419,250 (A$1.436m) earnings.
